The Denver Nuggets were first established in 1967 in Denver, Colorado; but the team joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) until 1976.
The Nuggets had achieved three division titles prior joining the NBA.
During the early years as part of the NBA, the Nuggets achieved two Division titles in the late 70’s, followed by another two awards in the mid 80’s and a more recently, one in 2006.
During the 1980’s, the Nuggets became an aggressive team, scoring often more than 115 points per game, reaching the playoffs consecutively from 1982 to 1990. From then on, the team had a very rough era and between 1991 and 2003 they only got to the postseason twice.
After that, Denver has reached the playoffs six times in a row, but until last season they haven't been able to go further the first round.
For this season 2008-09, the team kept having the important contribution of Carmelo Anthony and with the addition of point guard Chauncey Billups the team managed to have a very good stats in the West, where they finished in the second position with a record of 54-28 and won the sixth division title of their history.
In the 2009 NBA Playoffs, Denver managed to advance until the Western Conference Finals, where they were defeated by the L.A. Lakers 4-2 in the series. Previously, they had defeated New Orleans and Dallas with 4-1 series in the First Round and Conference Semifinals respectively.
