The team’s history dates back to 1946 when it was founded in Pennsylvania as the Philadelphia Warriors.

During the early days the Warriors were part of the BAA which later became the National Basketball Association or NBA.

In 1962 the team relocated to San Francisco, California and during the 1971-1972 season they became the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors have been a very successful basketball team, mainly in its early years, achieving a total of 7 Division Titles and 6 conferences titles as well as one ABA title and two NBA Championships.

More recently, the 2007-08 season, left the team with a positive 48-34 record, however, they did not reached the playoffs.

Don Nelson is the current Head Coach; he had previously led the Warriors from 1988 to 1995 and signed a new contract with the team in 2006.

For the 2008-09 season, Monta Ellis is unavailable until Christmas time, and possibly even longer. With a very powerful Division, the team is going to have a hard time keeping a significant record.
