The Rockets franchise was founded in 1967 and they were originally located at San Diego, California, until 1971 when the team moved to Houston, Texas.

Throughout their history the team has won four Division titles, four Conference titles and two consecutive NBA championships.

The Rockets current Head Coach is Richard Adelman who has been leading them since the second quarter of 2007.

During the 2008-2009 campaign the team achieved 53 wins, 29 loses and a winning percentage of .646, finishing second in the Southwest Division and fifth in the Western Conference.

The Rockets start their 25th appearance in the NBA playoffs facing the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round. The Rockets stole the homecourt advantage from the Blazers by defeating them 108-81 in the first game of the series and went on to pass further the first round for the first time in 12 years. They faced the first seeded of the conference, the L.A. Lakers, in the Conference Semifinals with a great performance, even winning the first game at the Staples Center and taking the series to seven games, but they finally failed in the last game 70-89.
