The Lakers' franchise was created in 1946 in Detroit and after a few years the team moved to Minneapolis where became one of the stepping stones of the sport. Later on in 1960 the team moved to their final destination in Los Angeles.
All the way through the Lakers’ history they have achieved 27 Division titles besides their 28 conference titles and 14 NBA Championships, being the most recent one in 2002.
One of the most remembered Lakers’ Coaches is Pat Riley who led the team to four successive finals; the very first title achieved by Riley was during his first campaign with the team followed by the 1985 NBA title win.
During 1987 the Lakers and Pat Riley made history in the NBA with one of the best rosters in the sport with players such as: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Byron Scott, A.C. Green, Mychal Thompson and Michael Cooper to end up the season with a third NBA title under Riley guidance.
As of the 1999-2000 season, the Lakers’ appointed Phil Jackson as head coach, who was named Coach of the Year in 1996, after his ever-lasting coaching career with the Chicago Bulls of Michael Jordan.
The L.A. Lakers hold the NBA record for most appearances in the NBA Finals and this 2008-09 season is not an exception; they secured their playoffs berth with a great record of 65-17 in the regular season, and then defeated Utah, Houston and Denver on their way to the 2009 NBA Finals, before clinching their 15th NBA title defeating the Orlando Magic 4-1 in the finals series, clinching as well the division and conference championships.
