The Miami Heat was created in 1987 and made their first appearance during the 1988-89 NBA season. The Heat’s early start was a bit shy, but in the late 1990’s the temperature arose and the Heat were able to achieve 7 Division titles wins in ten years (1997-2007), as well as the conference and NBA championship title in 2006.
During the team’s NBA championship victory in 2006 in hands of Pat Riley, the Heat defeated the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals and then defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the Playoffs Finals, with a great roster which included the superstars Dwayne Wade, Shaquile O’Neal, Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning and Antoine Walker.
In the 2006-07 season they weren’t able to defend their championship and fell in the first round, swept by the Chicago Bulls. Then, the 2007-08 season was a complete nightmare for the Heat since the team was torn apart; Riley retired, O’Neil was traded, several players leaved and Wade had several surgeries that kept him out of the court. At the end, the Heat finished with a painful record of 15-67, tying with their inaugural season back in 1989 as the worst of the franchise.
However, this season 2008-09 brought some confidence back to the Heat; Wade is back and has been great, even tying with LeBron James a record of three games with 50-plus points in the regular season. They also count with the contribution of rookies Mario Chamblers and Michael Beasley and acquired recently the former Raptors center Jermaine O’Neil.
They clinched a playoffs berth with a record of 43-39, a great recover from last season, and in the first round they took the series with Atlanta to seven games, but finally lost in final game of the series 91-78.
