The team’s franchise was first created in 1967 under the name of New York Americans. After sometime in New Jersey, the team went back to New York and changed its name to NY Nets.
Later on in 1976 the team joined the NBA and before season 1977-78 started, they moved back to New Jersey.
In recent years the Nets have achieved several division titles and 2 conference victories in 2002 and 2003.
Amongst some of the Nets most notable players through the years are: Rich Barry, Drazen Petrovic, Nate Archibald and Julius Erving.
Throughtout the team’s history they have not achieved a championship yet with the NBA and have struggled to get back on track specially after the 2002-2003 season, when they lost the Finals to counterpart San Antonio 4-2.
During the 2007-08 season the Nets managed to get a poor record of 32 wins, 45 loses and a winning percentage of .416 overall.
The Nets Head Coach is Lawrence Frank whose career coaching record belongs to his history with the team since the 2003-04 season, with a total of 191 wins and 177 loses.
For 2008-09 season the team traded for Richard Jefferson thinking on future financials. Newly drafted superstar Brook Lopez from Stanford comes as an excellent addition for this campaign.
As of 2010 the Nets will change locations and the team will be renamed as the Brooklyn Nets.
