The Sixers are the oldest franchise in the league; established in 1939. They were first located at Syracuse, NY and were known as the Syracuse Nationals, but by 1963 the team moved to Philadelphia and changed their name to Philadelphia 76ers.
The 76ers have been a well-built basketball team; they have won 11 Division titles and 5 conference titles plus three NBA championships in the 50’s, 60’s and the mid 1980’s.
One of the most remembered Sixes’ player is Sr. Charles Barkley, who was with the team from 1984 to 1992. During that time, the team missed the playoffs only once.
The 76ers are currently leaded by the interim Coach Tony DiLeo since the end of 2008, when he took over the team after a 9-14 record that got Maurice Cheeks fired.
DiLeo knows the Sixers very well since he has been with the franchise almost 20 years now, and though this is his first time as Head Coach, he has had a very good start, taking the team to a 41-41 record (with a .542 winning percentage in games he leaded) which was good enough to clinch a playoff berth. However, they were defeated in the first round by the Orlando Magic 4-2.
