The team was founded in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals and some years later in 1973 the team changed their name to the San Antonio Spurs.

They are basically the one of the four former ABA teams to remain undamaged in the National Basketball Association after the merger and the only former ABA team to have won NBA championships.

The team is one of the top groups in the NBA as throughout their history they have won 15 Division titles, 4 conferences titles and 4 National Championships.

During the most recent basketball campaign in 2007 the team acquired several more prospects such as: Brazilian forward Tiago Splitter and NBA Development League Austin Toros.  

Since 2002 the Spurs have played their home games at the AT&T Center which holds more than 18,000 spectators.

Presently in the 2007-2008 the Spurs have gathered a record of 53 wins and 25 loses and are second in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.
