The Oklahoma City Thunder, formerly known as the Seattle Supersonics, was founded in 1967; the franchise’s first professional contribution was during the 1968-1969 season.
Throughout their history the team has won 6 Division titles most of them during the 90’s, followed by 3 conference titles and one championship title in 1979.
The 1990’s decade is with no doubt the Sonics’ best era, as the team had a very strong base and excellent players such as: forward Detlef Schrempf, center Sam Perkins, Kemp and Payton, guard Hersey Hawkins, and guard Nate McMilla.
The following years were a period of much instability, which created a very tense atmosphere leading to poor team performances and Head Coach Nate McMillan decided it was time to leave.
During the 2007-08 campaign the new head Coach became P.J. Carlesimo, who is pursuing a new Division title.
For 2008-09 Coach Carlesimo remains in office. He is looking for approach that focuses on defense and a good fit for a young team that is still establishing it's identity
