Clemson opened its doors to 446 students as an all-male military college in 1893. Today, approximately 17,000 students attend the co-educational institution, with 64 percent of those students from South Carolina and the remaining from near by areas.
Question, could this be the year of the tiger? Stats say they are looking to be in the top 10 this year. Head coach Tommy Bowden has a different review each season, he quotes. "It's a position I'm not accustomed to and our team's not accustomed to. I'm anxious to see how the players will respond. The bull's-eye is definitely bigger." Perfect words for a 10 season master on the field.
James Davis and C.J. Spiller are to be mentioned this year and we will hear from them later. They say the true heart is in ones roots; Davis had a change of heart last spring, instead of going pro, he decided to stay in Clemson. He has over 3,000 rushing yards in his career. Spiller, on the other hand, has speed and can create a play out of the air. Another player who decided at the last minute not to go pro and return to the team is wide receiver Aaron Kelly. He had 11 touchdown catches in 2007 and complements pretty good with Tyler Grisham.
Three starters are gone from last season and the replacements look pretty young. Bowden says it won't be easy to get them ready for the opener against Alabama. The problem is, what are we going to ask those guys to do?
You don't want to go into the Alabama game (unprepared) and (make the game) like shooting fish in a barrel. We hope to expect a good season like last year.
