The Duke Blue Devils has been one of the least successful football teams in Division I-A over the past two decades. The most famous Duke Blue Devils football season came in 1938, when Wallace Wade coached the "Iron Dukes" who went unscored during the whole regular season.
As of September 2007, the Blue Devils currently have the longest ongoing losing streak in NCAA football. The blue Devils most recent victory came two years ago against VMI, which plays in what formerly was called Division I-AA, and the Blue Devils haven’t beaten a major college opponent since 2004.
Duke Blue Devils reached the national championship game, their first Rose Bowl appearance losing 7-3 when USC scored a touchdown in the last minute of the game. |
In 1942 Duke Blue Devils lost another Rose Bowl to Oregon State. Duke has topped the list 12 years, earning it the most Academic Achievement Awards and twice as many as the closest contender.
According to a 2006 evaluation conducted by the NCAA, Duke's student-athletes have the highest graduation rate of any institution in the nation at 91%.
