The Florida State Seminoles football team is a very successful college football team. Florida State has won two national championships and produced two Heisman Trophy winners: quarterback Charlie Ward in 1993 and quarterback Chris Weinke in 2000.
The current head coach of the team, Bobby Bowden, which joined the team in 1976 has won more games than any other NCAA Division I-A coach in history.
The name "Florida State Seminoles" was selected by vote of the university's student body in 1947, shortly after Florida State University became a coeducational institution and re-established a football team. |
For more than 30 years, Florida State University has worked strongly with the Seminole Tribe of Florida to guarantee the dignity and propriety of the various Seminole symbols used by the university. The Florida State University's goal is to be a model community that treats all cultures with pride while celebrating diversity.
