Based in Newark, Delaware, the Delaware Blue Hens have been members of the CAA in the NCAA Division I-AA since 2007. The Blue Hens play their home games at Delaware Stadium, which was opened in 1952.
In their 117-year history, the Fightin' Blue Hens have won six national titles in 1946, 1963, 1971, 1972, 1979, and, under the lead of coach K.C Keeler, in 2003 with an overall record of 15-1.
Although 2007 proved a strong season – the team finished with a record of 11-4 that left it close to winning the national championship – the Blue Hens had the worst season in their history in 2008. The team finished in 5th place of the CAA South with an overall record of 4-8 and lost its last two games against Richmond and Villanova.
Despite the bad season, Coach K.C Keller was granted a 10-year contract extension – until 2017 – with the Blue Hens.
