Based in Williamsburg, Virginia, the William and Mary Tribe are members of the CAA in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Tribe has been part of the CAA since 2007, when it was formed. The Tribe has played at the Zable Stadium since 1935.
Since their first season of football, the Tribe have won eight conference championships. As a member of the Southern Conference, the team won in 1942, 1947, 1966 and 1970. Then, after moving to the Yankee Conference, the Tribe won the title in 1993. Finally as members of the A-10 Conference, the Tribe won in 1996 and were co-champions in 2001 and 2004.
For the 2008 season, a 7-4 record left the W&M team at fourth place in the CAA South; the Tribe finished the regular season without a playoffs appearance after losing against Richmond in overtime 23-20.
