The Syracuse Orange belongs to the Syracuse University and played their first intercollegiate football game in 1889. In 1959, Syracuse had an undefeated regular season and became National Champion.
Syracuse remained competitive through the 1960s with a serie of All American running backs. In the 1970s Syracuse began to decline but the situation began to change with the construction of the Carrier Dome and the success of the future NFL stars Joe Morris and Art Monk.
Under Coach Dick MacPherson the team returned to national prominence with an undefeated 11-0 regular season record in 1987. |
Between 1988 and 2001 the team became more and more successful, achieving two Championship Titles and winning nine Bowl games out of eleven.
