Based in Cheney, Washington, the Eastern Washington Eagles have been members of the Big Sky Conference in the NCAA Division I since 1987. The team presently plays its home games at Woodward Field, which was expanded and renovated in 2005.
During the 2005 season, quarterback Erik Meyer, who played from 2001-05 for the Eagles, was awarded with the Walter Payton trophy for the best player in the NCAA Division I-AA.
The team managed a winning season in 2008, with a regular season record of 6-5-0 that left it in 4th place of the BSC. For 2009, however, the Eagles hope for an appearance in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs and another winning season.
