Based in Conway, South Carolina, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have been members of the Big South Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 2003. The Chanticleers plays their home games at the Brooks Stadium, which was first opened in 2003; however a new field house construction is already under progress and will possibly be completed in mid-2010.

After 6 years in the Big South, the Chanticleers attained their first conference championship in 2004. The following years saw several ups and downs for the team; although the Chanticleers saw some success, recent years have proven difficult for the players.

Despite an attempt at rebuilding the team in 2008, the Chanticleers finished the season in 6th place of the BSC with a conference record of 1-4 and an overall record of 6-6.
