The Big South Conference has exited since 1983 for other sports but it was not until the start of the 2003 season when they became part of the NCAA’s Division I-AA for football.
The Big South's football members are Gardner-Webb, Coastal-Carolina, Liberty, Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and Charleston-Southern.
For more than 20 years, the Big South Conference has been a progressive, NCAA Division I athletic conference reflecting the energy and growth of the Southeastern United States.
