Based in Lexington, Virginia, the Virginia Military Keydets have been members of the Big South Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 2003. The Keydets presently play their home games in the Alumni Memorial Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000 and was built in 1962.

Between 1891 and 2008, the Keydets have won eight Southern Conference Championship; the team has not, however, attained a championship yet in the Big South Conference.

In 2008, Virginia Military finished in 5th place of the BSC with a 4-7 record, winning only two games in conference play.  Last season was the first season for coach Sparky Woods, who is the 30th coach in the Keydets’ 117-year history.
