The Nebraska team’s nickname "Cornhuskers" was first applied to all athletic teams at the turn of the century by sports writer Charles "Cy" Sherman, but prior to following his suggestion, Nebraska sports teams were called several names among which we have: the Bugeaters, Tree Planters, Nebraskans, Rattlesnake Boys, Antelopes and Old Gold Knights.
Today, it is commonly stated as "Huskers."
Commonly, the Nebraska Husker football team is welcomed onto the field with a deafening roar from the fans, and the tunnel walk has been ranked among the top traditions in college football. |
