The Oklahoma State Cowboys represent the Oklahoma State University. With 48 team national titles Oklahoma State has the fourth-most team national championships in the county.
Oklahoma State is a member of the Big 12 Conference's South division.
One of Oklahoma’s tradition is having the team stay in the Atherton Hotel at the Student Union the night before a game.
On the day of the game, two hours and fifteen minutes prior to the game, the team walks down Hester Street to Lewis Field and enter the Stadium. This has quickly become a favorite of Oklahoma State Cowboy fans. |
Oklahoma State first played football in 1901. Their current Head Coach is Mike Gundy, who is also the school's all-time passing leader. During Gundy's playing career, the Cowboys enjoyed their greatest success with consecutive ten-win seasons. Also during this era, tailback Barry Sanders became the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner while also breaking the single-season NCAA records for rushing and all-purpose yards. Sanders holds records for most rushing yards in a game and in a season..
