Based in Norman, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Sooners are members of the Big 12 Conferenc e in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1996. Before becoming member of the Big 12, the Sooners competed in the Big Eight, the Big Seven, the Big Six, the MVIAA and finally the Southwest Conference.
The Sooners have been a dominant football program in every conference they have played in, from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12 Conference. The team has captured 42 conference titles, including 14 consecutive one from 1946–1959, and the seven national championships: 1950, 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1985 and 2000. The Oklahoma football team plays its home games at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since 1925.
For the 2008 season, the Sooners football team ended with an overall record of 12-2 and finished in second place of the South Division in the Big 12. In conference play they ended with a 7-1 record, winning the last game of the season against Missouri 62-21.
