The Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo football team is part of the Great West Football Conference and competes in the NCAA Division I-AA.
The team is one of the most successful on the league having won in 20 different occasions.
A very important fact to mention about the team is the known accident they had on October 29, 1960 when the football team was on a plane that crashed on takeoff at the Toledo, Ohio airport where 22 people were killed including sixteen players, the team student manager and a Cal Poly football booster.
