Based in Washington D.C, the Howard Bison has been a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1970. Before joining the MEAC, the Bison team was competing in the CIAA Division II.

At Washington, the Bison play their games at the William H. Greene Stadium, which was opened 16 years after the team’s first season at the MEAC.

The Bison have won two conference championships, in 1987 and 1993.

With a 1-10 overall record for the 2008 season, the Howard Bison not only ended in last place overall for the MEAC but they also ended without winning any conference games, going with a 0-8 record.
