Based in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the SC State Bulldogs are charter members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA, playing since 1970. Originally, the Bulldogs competed in the CIAA. They now play their home games at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, which has a capacity of 22,000.

The Bulldogs football team has won more conference championships than any other school in the MEAC, with wins in 1974, 1975 (shared title with North Carolina A&T), 1976 (shared title with Morgan State University), 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982 (shared title with Florida A&M), 1983, 1994, 2004 (shared title with Hampton University), and, most recently, 2008.

In fact, in 2008 the South Carolina State Bulldogs had one of team’s best seasons, ending in 1st place of the MEAC with a perfect conference record of 8-0 and an overall record of 10-3.
