Important Facts
MEAC Football has produced many NFL professional players including
ten pro football Hall of Famers: Marion Motley; Roosevelt Brown; Len Ford; David “Deacon” Jones; Willie Lanier; Art Shell; Larry Little; Leroy Kelly; Elvin Bethea and Harry Carson.
At the moment, there are over 25 former MEAC football players on NFL rosters.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) had seven players named to The Sports Network 2006 Preseason Division I-AA All-American team. Hampton Linebacker Justin Durant, two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and a Street & Smith’s preseason all-american, led all MEAC selections as the only member on the first team.
Durant’s teammates, running back Alonzo Coleman and defensive lineman Kendal Langford were pre-season second-team picks, along with Florida A&M defensive lineman Tyrone McGriff. The Pirates’ kicker Andrew Paterini, FAMU punter Wesley Taylor and Norfolk State tight end Jonathan Allen were honorable mention selections.
