The Hornets became infamous during the 1980s, when, in a game against Portland State, the Delaware team lost 105-0, the worst score in college football history.
In the team’s 85 years of football, the Hornets have won one CIAA co-championship in 1956 as well as five MEAC championships, in 1985, 1987, 1989, and 2007.
With a 5-6 overall record for the 2008 season, the Hornets not only ended well at 3rd place overall for the MEAC, but they also won the last two games of the season against Norfolk State and Howard, respectively.
