Based in Hampton, Virginia, the Hampton Pirates are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Pirates became part of the MEAC in 1995 after leaving the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
The Pirates won the conference title in 1997, then shared one in 1998 and 2004, and won the conference again outright in 2005. The team has won 3 MEAC Championships, 3 SBN-Black College National Championships, and each year the Pirates have been ranked in the Division I FCS top-25 poll.
The Pirates have played their home games at Armstrong Stadium since 1928.
