Based in Tallahassee, Florida, the Florida A&M Rattlers are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Rattlers joined the MEAC in 1986 after competing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in Division II. The Rattlers have played their home games at the Bragg Memorial Stadium since 1982.
Between 1938 and 1961, the team won the Black College National Championship in football eight times; later, the Rattlers claimed 22 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and finally 5 MEAC titles. One of the most notable coaches in team history was Jake Gaither, who coached the Rattlers for 25 years before retiring in 1969.
In 2008, the Rattlers finished with an overall record of 9-3 and obtained second place in the MEAC with the help of coach Joe Taylor.
