Akron University was founded in 1870 as a small college affiliated with the Universalist Church.
The school’s main football rivalry is with Kent State University, and they play for the Wagon Wheel. Akron also plays Youngstown State University for the Steel Tire.
The Zips won their very first MAC Championship in 2005, giving them a chance to play in the Motor City Bowl, where they lost against Memphis.
The Zips have had an unprecedented success under the leadership of head coach J. D. Brookhart, generating the best winning records for the team so far. |
