Based in Springfield, Missouri, the Missouri State Bears have been members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1985. The Bears play their home games at the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.

In its 100 years of football, the team has won eight conference championships and had a total of 19 coaches; the current coach is Terry Allen, who has a record of 8-14 in his past two years with the Bears.

During the 2008 season, Missouri State ended in 6th place of the MVFC with a conference record of 3-5 and an overall record of 4-7.
