History - Important facts - Teams - Winners
The Missouri Valley Football Conference, formerly known as the Gateway Football, was founded in 1985 as a football-only conference.
The conference is part of the NCAA Division I as member of the Football Championship Subdivision.
The Conference was formed with the remaining football schools of the Missouri Valley Conference when they stopped sponsoring football in 1985: Illinois State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois. Later, other four teams joined to the conference: Indiana State, Youngtown State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
The Gateway Football Conference changed its name to Missouri Valley Football on June, 2008, sharing the name with the Missouri Valley Conference, but remaining separate.
