The Mountain West Conference is the newest conference in the NCAA Division I-A, it was founded only eight years ago in 1999 with its headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The conference has members from the states of California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
Among some of the charter members there are the universitie from Colorado State, Air Force, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Wyoming, BYU and Utah.
The conference most recognized rivalries between members in recent years are: New Mexico and Utah for the Bowl game and Air Force and Colorado State for the Ram-Falcon Trophy.
Mountain West conference fields 14 different sports among which are: baseball, women’s soccer, swimming and diving, men’s and women’s basketball, golf, skiing,. Men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball, football, cross country, softball, and outdoor track.
In 2004 some negotiations took place among the intercollegiate athletics before announcing Texas Christian University would be part of the league’s list of members as of the 2005-2006 season.
