Based in Fargo, North Dakota, the North Dakota State Bison are members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. North Dakota joined the MVFC in 2008 after being a charter member of the Great West Football Conference and the North Central Conference in NCAA Division II.
During its time at the Division II level, North Dakota was a dominant team, winning a total of five national titles: 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990. The Bison have also won a total of 17 outright championships and 26 league titles. In Division I the Bison wont he GWFC title in 2006.
