Based in Staten Island, New York, the Wagner Seahawks are members of the Northeast Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. Before joining the NEC, The Seahawks plays in the NCAA Division III, in which they won their only national title in 1987.
One of the greatest coaches for the Seahawks was Walt Hameline, who ended with a 189-105-2 (.643) career record and was ranked in the top 10 among all Division I-FCS coaches in the United States.
Last season 2008, the Seahawks finished with an overall record of 3-8 and obtained seventh place of the NEC with a conference record of 1-6, losing the last four games of the season.
