Based in Cookeville, Tennessee, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles have been members of the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1949. The Golden Eagles have won seven conference titles; however the last time they won a championship was in 1975.

The Tennessee Tech football team plays its home games at the Tucker Stadium, which was named for former head coach Wilburn Tucker, who died in 1980.

For the 2008 season, the Golden Eagles ended with an overall record of 3-9 record in the season and finished in last place of the OVC.  In conference play the Panthers ended with a 1-7 record, losing the last seven games of the season.
