Based in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks are members of the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1991. Before joining the OVC, the Redhawks participated in Division II MIAA.
In its transition to division I, the team has struggled, with only two winning seasons in 1994 and 2002. The Redhawks play their home games at the Houck Stadium, which was opened in 1930.
With a 4-8 overall record for the 2008 season, the Redhawks ended in 7th place of the OVC, finishing in the conference play with an even 2-6 record and winning the last game of the season against Austin Peay 33-30.
