Based in Charleston, Illinois, the Eastern Illinois Panthers are members of the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Panthers joined the OVC in 1996 and prior to that participated in the NCAA Division II, where they won one national championship in 1978.
The Panthers have played their home games at the O’Brien Stadium since 2004. During their participation in Division I, the Panthers have appeared in the National Football tournament on twelve occasions.
For the 2008 season, the Eastern Illinois football team ended with an overall record of 5-7 in the season and finished in 6th place of the OVC. In conference play the Panthers ended with a 3-5 record, winning the last game of the season against Tennessee Tech 38-20.
