Based in San Diego, California, the USD Toreros are members of the Pioneer League Football Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Toreros joined the PLF in 1992 and plays their home games at the Torero Stadium, which has a capacity of 6,000 seats.

Since their inclusion in the Pioneer League, the Toreros have won two conference championships in 2005 and 2006.

Last season 2008, the Toreros finished with an overall record of 9-2 and took second place in the PFL with a conference record of 6-2. San Diego also won the last three games of the season against Davidson, Butler and UC Davis.
