Based in Brookings, South Dakota, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits are members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. South Dakota started its transition to the MVFC in 2004 after being a charter member of the North Central Conference of Division II for years.
During their time in Division II, the Jackrabbits were a dominant team, winning a total of 14 NCC titles throughout the 20th century. The team took its last NCC title, however, in 1963. During their short term at the MVFC, the Jackrabbits won the conference championship in 2007.
With a 7-5 overall record for the 2008 season, the Jackrabbits ended in 3rd place of the MVFC, finishing with a 6-2 record in conference play and winning the last game of the season.
