Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Louisiana State Tigers are member of the Southeastern Conference in the NCAA Division I. Before becoming part of the SEC in 1932, the Tigers played in the Southern Conference from 1922 to 1931 and in the SIAA from 1896 to 1921. LSU currently plays its home games at the Tiger Stadium, which opened in 1924.
During their history, the Tigers have claimed 7 Division titles, 13 conference championships and 3 national titles (1958, 2003 and 2007). Moreover, LSU football team has participated in 41 Bowl games, having a record of 22-18-1. Coach Les Miles has led the team since 2005.
In 2008, the Louisiana State football team finished with an overall record of 8-5 and obtained the third place of the Western Division of the SEC with a conference record of 3-5.
The 2009 season proved to be a better one for the LSU football team. They finished in the second place of the Western Division with records of 5-3 in the SEC and 9-3 overall. The Tigers will face Penn State on the 2010 Capital One Bowl at Orlando, FL.
