Based in San Marcos, Texas, the Texas State Bobcats are members of the Southland Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Bobcats became part of the SLC in 1987 and plays their home games at the Bobcat Stadium. The Texas State football team competed at the NAIA Lone Star Conference from 1932 to 1982. Later, the school decided to move to Division I, where they competed at the Gulf Coast Conference for three seasons before they joined SLC in 1987.
In all their years of football, the Bobcats have claimed 2 National Championships Division II and 11 Conference Champions. Nine titles are from the Lone Star Conference (NAIA) and the other two are from the SLC. Those SLC championships were attained in the 2005 and 2008 seasons.
During the 2008 season, the Texas State Bobcats finished with an overall record of 8-5 and acquired second place of the SLC with a conference record of 5-2. The Bobcats claimed the Conference Championship in the season for the second time in their history. However, despite the Conference title the Bobcats football team lost the last game of the NCAA playoffs against Montana 13-31.
