Based in Conway, Arkansas at the University of Central Arkansas, the Bears are members of the Southland Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Bears joined the Southland Conference in 2006 after competing in the West Division of the Gulf South Coference in Division II and prior to participating in the NAIA.
The Bears play their home games at the First Security Field at Estes, Arkansas. The Bears won the NAIA Division 1 national football championship three times. Between 1979 and 1992, the UCA Bears won or shared 13 out of 14 Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championships.
During the 2008 season, the UCA football team beat more Southland Conference rivals than any other conference team and was declared "Unofficial Southland Conference Champions." The Southland Conference and the NCAA would not recognize the Bears as the champions due to their transition lapse from Division II.
