JSU or Jackson State University was founded in Jackson, Mississippi in 1877. It is one of the highest ranking universities in the fields of business and computer systems.

The University sports teams are members of the NCAA Division I-AA in the SWA Conference. The football team has an extend background in the Division achieving 15 SWAC titles; the last one being in 1996.

Among some of the Hall of Famers we find; NFL Lem Barney, Walter Payton and Jackie Slater & former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith.
