Based in Houston, Texas, the Texas Southern Tigers are members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA. The Tigers joined SWAC in 1954 and plays their home games at Robertson Stadium, which was opened in 1942 and has a current capacity of 32,000 seats.
During their time in SWAC, the Tigers has achieve three conference championships, one during the season of 1956 and then the other two shared in the 1966 and 1968 seasons.
For the 2008 season, Texas Southern football team ended with an overall record of 4-8 and finished in fifth place of the East Division of SWAC. In conference play, they ended with a 1-6 record, losing the last three games of the season.
