The school team was originally called the Mississippi Southerners but in 1971 the team became the Golden Eagles.
The M. M. Roberts Stadium located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi is the home of the Southern Mississippi football team.
The Golden Eagles have produced many great players throughout its years, including: Derrick Nix, Sammy Winder, Reggie Collier and Hall of Fame Ray Guy.
The Golden Eagle football team currently holds a streak of 13 consecutive winning seasons, and 5 consecutive bowl game appearances. The team finished 9-5 in 2006 with a bowl victory over Ohio University. |
