In 1925 the team adopted the name Spartans as the official mascot and nickname. The football team started playing in 1898 winning the first Conference Championship in 1932.
The SJ Spartans play their home games at the San Jose State's Spartan Stadium; which has expanded its capacity twice since 1980.
1991 was the last Conference Championship achieved by the San Jose State Spartans. The Spartans have placed notable athletes in the NFL, names such as: Kim Bokamper, linebacker of the Dolphins, the famous quarterback Jeff Garcia and Gerald Willhite- former NFL running back with the Denver Broncos. |
