Based in Moscow, Idaho, the Idaho Vandals are members of the Western Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I. The Vandals joined the WAC in 2005 after competing in the PAC-10 from 1922 to 1958, in the Big Sky Conference from 1963 to 1995, in the Big West Conference from 1996 to 2000, and in the Sun Belt from 2001 to 2004.

The Vandals currently have an all-time record of 408-523-23 and their main rivals are Washington,Boise State and Montana. Idaho football team plays its home games at the Kibbie Dome since 1971.

The Idaho football team ended the 2008 season in the eight place of the WAC with a 1-7 conference record, and a 2-10 overall record. At the end of the year the Vandals lost the last three games of the season against San Jose State (24-30), Boise State (10-45) and Hawaii (17-49).
