Based in Youngstown, Ohio, the Youngstown State Penguins have been members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the NCAA Division I-AA since 1997. The Penguins plays their home games at Stambaugh Stadium, which is called also “The Ice Castle”.

Youngstown State has won four national championships, which were claimed in 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1997. The Penguins were also runners-up in 1992 and 1999 in the national title finals. The team has won 8 conference titles in its history.
