Dallas Cowboys History
Based in Arlington, Texas, the Dallas Cowboys are members of the East Division of the National Football Conference.
The Cowboys were created in 1960 as an expansion franchise for the National Football League. The franchise is famous for its popularity, known for selling out more tickets than any other NFL team.
The team is also considered one of the wealthiest among NFL teams, and is the most valuable sports franchise in the United States. It ranks as the second most valuable in the world, behind the Manchester United football club.
The Cowboys have won five Super Bowls and ten conference championships. They hold NFL records for the most consecutive winning seasons, making over .500 every year between 1966 and 1985. The Cowboys are also the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in just four years.
For the 2008 season, a 9-7 record left the Texas team with third place in the NFC East, finishing the regular season without a playoffs appearance and placing 8th in the NFC. In May of 2009, a windstorm caused the Cowboys Stadium to collapse, injuring both players and coaches. As a result, Dallas is playing in a new facility since 2009.
The Dallas Cowboys clinched Division and made their 30th postseason appearance in a year where they also inaugurated a new stadium, setting an attendance record of 105,121 fans against the New York Giants. Their season ended in the Divisional Round versus Minnesota with a 3-34 defeat. Quarterback Tony Romo set some franchise records that season with 4,483 passing yards, 347 completions and 550 attempts for the most in a season. And wide receiver Miles Austin joined Michael Irvin and Terrell Owens club of 80+receptions, 1,300 receiving yards and 10+ touchdowns in a single season. Tight end Jason Witten also had a distinguished season with 90+ receptions and 1,000+ receiving yards.
